What management said

The increase in interest expense was due to a $4.0 million increase in interest expense on deposits, attributable to higher average balances, and a $4.2 million increase in interest expense on our borrowings driven by higher balances to fund loan growth and replace subordinated debt funding, following the redemption of the 3.25% Fixed-to-Floating Rate Subordinated Notes due 2031 during the second quarter.
