Blast furnace steelmaking is more prevalent outside the U.S. compared to domestic steel production, which creates demand for exports of metallurgical coal, including demand growth in the Asia Pacific. Global metallurgical coal markets remained soft in the second quarter of 2026 due to constrained economic growth in some regions of the world and continued conflict overseas.
